The Australian singer/songwriter Jaimi Faulkner feels most comfortable when he takes matters into his own hands. When he set out from Melbourne into the wide world 15 years ago, he already had a successful debut (at least in Australia) to his name and even represented his home country at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis. But that didn’t truly satisfy him. Over the following years, he focused on honing his skills as a solo performer while supporting well-known acts such as Chris Whitley and Chris Isaak — and, along the way, learned the craft of sound engineering.

He eventually found a new home in Berlin, where he continues to release his own albums regularly. By 2017, with the album Back Road and the hit single Early Morning Coffee Cups released shortly before, Faulkner had found his style — a blend of blues, soul, folk, and pop.

With Half of It, he now presents a concept album centered on themes of loss, grief, and sadness — an introspective account of his emotions: melancholic, fragile, and intimate. It takes courage to reveal one’s soul so openly — respect for daring to do so.
